Boutique Bald Rock Wines

Bald Rock Wines are sourced from fruit of the Strathbogie Ranges Wine Region. At the foot of the huge monolith, Bald Rock harbours ancient granite deposits and with cooling breezes produces award-winning wines. Pinot Noir is the mainstay of the Bald Rock Wines range, and revels in the continental micro-climate.

Bald Rock Wines will continue to present distinctive well structured & vintage consistent wines from the eleven acres of lovingly nurtured vines established by the Thomson’s.

We strive to deliver an experience that is memorable and will never compromise on the quality and excellence that we as a group strive for every day.

Bald Rock Wines statement

We thrive in making fine wines that enrich the taste&soul.

Over 20 years ago our founder John Thomson had a vision for what would become an all encompassing passion for the Thomson family. To create wines of exceptional quality in what he had discovered was a perfect micro-climate in the foothills of the Strathbogie Ranges.

Following the first commercial bottling in 2005 after years of patient labor tending the vines John and his family were rewarded with a distinctive well-structured and vintage-consistent set of wines that went on to receive accolades from renowned critics like James Halliday and consistently get write ups in publications like Decanter.

Currently there are 2.5ha pinot noir, 1.6ha shiraz and 1ha chardonnay, established under monitored drip irrigation to control berry size and the vision of Bald Rock Estate is to continue to deliver best in class wines.

Awards won

The 2009 Shiraz wins 'best in class' - ``The dark, ruby red hue is very attractive, the aroma intensely fruity - berries and ripe grape skins with a slightly smokey overlay. The palette is rich and fruity; a nice tannin grip gives a very long and enjoyable finish.``
